Your first fifteen minutes

Three things make a new boat yours; the search box, the Chart tab and a long-press answer everything else. Fifteen minutes, start to comfortable.

A new boat in theONE is empty on purpose, and the first fifteen minutes are about three things — not thirty. The card at the top of Mission Control names them: Engines and hours, One document, One person aboard. Each row is a door into the screen where that thing gets done, and each ticks itself off the moment the thing exists on the record. Nothing ticks because you tapped it.

While the boat is new, each of the four hero tiles under the card carries a line beneath its number saying what will fill it in. The magnifier in the top right goes anywhere, the Chart tab is your position and routes, and a long-press on any tile asks What's this?

On the sample boat the same card says so and offers Start your own boat instead — nothing on the sample counts.

Steps

  1. Engines and hours

The first row. With no engine on file it opens the boat survey at Main engines — add the engine there. Once an engine exists it opens the Hours Monitor, where the first reading starts the clock. Service intervals count from that reading.

  2. One document

A manual, the registration, the insurance certificate — anything. The row opens the Document Vault; add a PDF or scan paper. Search finds it from then on.

  3. One person aboard

A crew card, or an invite. The row opens Member Users; the + button in the top right (Invite member) makes a code — six digits for this phone, or an XXXX-XXXX cloud code for their own phone when this boat is the one linked in Account and the role is below yours there (owners and guests always get six digits). Either invite counts — the row ticks the moment the code is made, and the Crew Book is the other door to the same tick.

  4. Connect your boat's data (optional)

Shown only while no gateway is paired. It opens the device wizard. Not on this boat? Say so on the row and it goes away for good; the three things stay.

  5. Tiles teach until they have something to say

While the boat is new, each hero tile — Upcoming trips, Ready Now, Open observations, Maintenance — says what will fill it in. The first trip, fuel reading, observation or service interval swaps the lesson back for the tile's own live hint. Nothing is hidden; the tiles are exactly where they always are.

  6. The search box

The magnifier in the top right — on every tab, and the only way in. Type where you want to go ('fuel'), a name ('Hinckley Yard'), or a question. Doors come first, then records, then help.

  7. The Chart tab

Third slot on the tab bar. Your position, the route editor, saved routes and the Weather radar layer live there. Tides are not on this tab: the Tide row on the TODAY chip in Mission Control opens today's schedule, and a planned leg shows the tide at its destination in the leg's detail sheet. Fleet is not a tab — tap the vessel name under the Mission Control title.

  8. Hold a tile: What's this?

Long-press any hero tile, the readiness ring, the TODAY chip, the First Things card or a Foresight™ link card. A small card lifts out with a one-line answer, and Show me opens the full article. A tap still does what it always did.

  9. On the sample boat instead?

The card at the top says so and offers Start your own boat. After a confirmation it erases the sample and runs first-launch setup again for your boat. The one-time tour offer waits for your own boat too — the sample never spends it.

  10. When the card goes

It retires itself once all three things exist and never comes back on that boat. Hide it any time from its footer. While it is up, the boat survey stays one tap away in the same footer; once it retires, the survey's own resume card takes the slot until the survey is finished.
