Delete your account
theONE Vessel Command Center · JEMS Marine, LLC
theONE works with no account. This page is for anyone who signed in and wants that account deleted. You can do it yourself in the app, or ask us to do it.
In the app
Menu (☰) → Settings → Account → Delete my account. It is there while you are signed in: the third red row, under Sign out on this iPhone (or iPad) and Sign out of every device.
- It takes two taps, on purpose. Before you confirm, the app says what goes and what stays — and, if you own a boat, names her. Cancel leaves everything untouched.
- It may ask you to sign in again. Unless you signed in within the last fifteen minutes, theONE asks for your password, or offers to email a sign-in link to your address, to make sure it is really you. Nothing is deleted until you do, and Don’t delete my account backs out.
- It takes your crew card off the boat first. If the phone is offline, or not linked to the boat it carries, your account is not deleted and you are asked. Cancel, and try again once you are online; or choose Delete anyway, and your card may stay in her Crew Book, and on her officers’ phones, until an owner or manager deletes it there.
- It needs a connection. The deletion happens on our server, and the app says your account is gone only once the server has confirmed it.
What is erased
Deleting an account removes the identity: its sign-in address and method, its password hash, every session, and the name you gave yourself. It ends every membership, and it removes your own card from the boats you were on. In full:
- Your sign-in. The email address you signed in with, your password’s hash, and any password-reset code or sign-in link not yet used.
- Every session, on every phone, iPad and web browser.
- Your access to every boat, including any you own, and any authority that came with it. Invite codes you made that nobody has used yet stop working.
- The name you gave yourself in the app, which the boat’s owner, captain and manager saw on the list of members.
- Your own crew or guest card (My card) — your name, contact details, emergency contact, allergies, dietary and medical notes, its photo and any résumé on it — from the shared record of each boat you were on. It leaves her officers’ phones when they next sync. A card about you that someone else keeps, rather than your own My card, is theirs: ask that boat’s owner or a manager to delete it from her Crew Book.
- Any ask for more time you had sent, with its note.
- The record of sign-in attempts made with your address, rather than waiting out its seven days.
What is kept, and why
Records of work done on a vessel remain part of that vessel’s record, because a boat’s maintenance history must not develop holes when a person leaves it. Log entries, observations, maintenance, issues, trips and their legs, the tracks of trips you recorded, and the photos on those records stay with the boat. The entries stay; the name on them no longer leads to you. A name typed inside a record — a watchkeeper’s name on a log entry — is part of the boat’s record and is not rewritten.
Your memberships end but are not wiped from the boat’s history: what remains is a record, linked to no address or name, that an account held that role on the boat and when. Invite codes that were used to come aboard stay too, because that is how people got there. The account itself is left as an empty placeholder, with no name, no address and no way to sign in, so that the boat’s records that refer to it still hold together.
If you owned a boat when you delete your account, we keep one record so she can be given back to you: a keyed fingerprint of your email address — not the address itself — beside each boat you owned. It is kept for good, and it matches only if that same address signs in again.
Deleting your account does not touch the Founding Captain list on this website, which is separate. To be taken off it, write to ops@jems-marine.com.
A boat you own
She is not deleted. Her record stays in the cloud, and her captain and crew keep using her — their records and their cards are not touched. Nobody inherits your owner’s authority: she has no owner until you take her back or we return her. Selling her or handing her over? Do that first.
Changed your mind? For 30 days after you delete, sign in again with the same address using the emailed sign-in link, which proves the address is yours. Account then lists her under Your boats from a deleted account, and Restore my boat makes you her owner again. After that, write to ops@jems-marine.com; we check that it is you before returning her, and nobody reads the boat’s record to do it. She is not offered back if she was sold since or someone else owns her now.
A boat you are crew on
You leave her: your membership ends and your own card comes off her record, as above. What you recorded aboard stays in her record. If you were not her owner, the way back is the ordinary one: a new invite code from someone aboard who can make one.
What stays on your phone
Apart from your card, nothing on your phone is erased. Each boat’s record on it stays, and stops updating. A boat you do not own normally comes off your phone when your access ends, but that needs you signed in — so after you delete your account she stays on it for good. To take her off: if the phone carries another boat, open that one and remove her in Fleet (long-press her, then Remove); if she is the only boat on it, delete theONE from the phone, which takes everything else on it too. iOS keeps what an app saved in its Keychain — for theONE, a kept sign-in and your Boat IT passwords — after the app is deleted; if theONE is installed on that phone again, it clears them the first time it opens.
Signing in again
Nothing blocks the same address from signing in again, but it starts a new, empty account. The deletion is not undone.
If you cannot open the app
Write to ops@jems-marine.com with the email address you signed in with, and we will delete the account for you.
If you never signed in
There is no account to delete, and no vessel data of yours on our server. Deleting theONE from your device removes its data from the device, apart from the Boat IT passwords iOS keeps in the Keychain, as above. Check your device backups, and the calendar if you let theONE add to one, if you also want it gone from those.
What we hold once you sign in is set out in section 3a of our Privacy Policy. Questions: FAQ · Support.
