Chart — what the chart and map show you
Read the chart view — your vessel's position, course over ground, breadcrumb track, and the chart layers underneath.
The Chart shows where you are right now, where you've been (the breadcrumb track), and the chart underneath. Pinch to zoom; drag to pan. Your vessel icon points along your course over ground. Tap Locate me in the toolbar to recenter if you've panned away.
Steps
-
Open the chart
Tap the Chart tab — third from the left on the bar (the sidebar on iPad). The map card on Mission Control and menu (☰) → Vessel & ops → Chart land in the same place. The chart loads to your last known position.
-
Recenter on your boat
Tap Locate me in the toolbar to snap the map back to your current GPS position, framed about ten miles wide. Useful after panning around to inspect a destination.
-
Switch chart layers
Tap the Layers button for five switches: GPS live position, channel markers (buoys and beacons from NOAA), NEXRAD weather radar, Buoys (NOAA weather buoys) and Track line. Track line only shows or hides the line of the track being recorded (recording carries on with it off), and while nothing is recording its row has a Start button that starts a cruising track. Chart layers has each one. The base chart is the NOAA raster nautical chart; outside NOAA coverage the map falls back to a plain base map.
