Vessel briefing — the PDF for a relief captain or surveyor

Generate the captain's operational briefing as a PDF — safety gear, systems, open observations, service due, recent trips — for a relief captain, a surveyor, or your own records.

Vessel Briefing prints the boat's operational state as a PDF: safety equipment, critical systems and their status, open observations, service due in the next 90 days, recent trips and their legs, and a full systems inventory. It is the document you hand a relief captain, a surveyor or an insurer.

IT IS NOT A GUEST GUIDE. None of that has ever shipped — there is one PDF, the same one every time.

Steps

  1. First — the vessel card is not the PDF

Tapping the vessel name at the top of the Briefing opens the VESSEL CARD — hull number, air draft, papers, expiring documents, for your own reference. The shareable PDF below is a different thing, and it is the rest of this article.

  2. Open Vessel Briefing

Menu (☰) → Vessel Briefing. There is no Briefing tab — the tabs are Mission Control, Playbook, Chart, Maintenance and Stowage.

  3. Tap the share button

The share arrow in the top-right generates the PDF. There is nothing to configure first — no audience picker, no section toggles. What is on the briefing screen is what the PDF carries.

  4. What is on it

Header (vessel, dimensions, homeport, who is on watch, when it was briefed), Safety, Critical systems, Open observations, Upcoming service, Observations, Recent trips with legs and photos, and the full systems inventory. There is no personal-note field; the Notepad section on the briefing screen is not printed. Anything you want the reader to know goes in the message you send the PDF with.

  5. Share or print

Generate, then share via the iOS share sheet — AirDrop, Mail, Files, or print. The text is selectable and searchable, not a picture of a page, so a surveyor can copy from it.
