Open a route someone sent you

Add a route that arrived by AirDrop, message, email or file — including a GPX from a plotter or another app.

Tap the file wherever it arrived — AirDrop, Messages, Mail, Files — and theONE opens a preview instead of adding it straight away. Two kinds of file work: a .theoneroute from another boat running theONE, and a .gpx from a chartplotter or another app.

The preview shows the line on a chart, how many waypoints it has, how far it runs, and where it came from. Rename it before you add it if you want.

It also runs a depth check against YOUR boat — your draft and your minimum operating depth, not the sender's. The captain who sent it had no way to know what you draw. If you have not set a draft yet the preview says so rather than checking against nothing; unchecked water is never reported as safe.

If you already have the same line, the preview says which route it matches. It still lets you add it — nothing of yours is replaced or removed.

A GPX that is a recorded track can hold thousands of fixes. Those are thinned to 500 evenly spaced points so the route stays workable; the start and the end stay exactly where they were, and the preview tells you it happened.

Nothing is added until you tap Add to my routes.

Steps

  1. Tap the file

Open the attachment in Mail or Messages, accept the AirDrop, or tap the file in Files. theONE opens the preview.

  2. Read where it came from

A route from another theONE shows the sender's name, their boat and the date. A plotter file reads "From a GPX file" — GPX carries no author, and no passage notes either.

  3. Check it against your own boat

The preview runs the same chart depth check the route library uses, against your vessel's operating floor. Read it before you add. Nothing re-routes the line for you.

  4. Rename it if you like

The name field is editable. Leave it alone to keep the name the sender gave it.

  5. Add to my routes

The route lands in your route library as a new entry — yours to edit, reverse, follow or delete. The row remembers who sent it.
