Create a new trip

From a blank slate to a trip you can plan.

A trip is the container for everything that happens between leaving the dock and returning. Inside a trip you have one or more legs (each is a passage between two stops), tasks per department, a department drawer, a checklist, and a trip log.

Leaving right now, nothing planned? You don't need any of this first: on the Chart tab tap Go now ("Cast off from here") and theONE creates the trip, one leg from where you are, and starts it — with its track recording — in one tap. You name the destination when you tie up, in the same End Trip wizard. See "Go now".

Steps

  1. Open Trips

Menu (☰) → Trips. You see a list of past, current, and planned trips.

  2. Tap + New Trip

Only the destination is required. Leave the title blank and the trip saves as "<Weekday> cruise" for the day it departs — "Saturday cruise" — the same name Go now uses; type one ("Memorial Day to Oxford") to override. Depart opens on the next round hour at least 15 minutes from now (10:46 → 12:00, 23:50 → 01:00 tomorrow), not next Friday; the return opens two days later at 17:00; both pickers still move freely. The footer says exactly what fills itself: "Destination is required. Title and origin fill themselves if left blank." when the boat has a homeport, "Destination is required. Title fills itself if left blank." when it doesn't. The sheet has a Legs section: add a leg there for each passage, or save with none and add them from the trip — theONE does not make a leg for you.

  3. Add legs

Inside the trip, tap Add Leg for each passage. Each leg gets an origin and a destination, an ETD and an ETA, and up to 20 route waypoints. The distance is worked out for you as a straight line between the ends, so add waypoints when the route bends. Swipe a leg to delete it, tap it to edit.

  4. Assign crew and departments

Open the trip's Department Drawer to set who's responsible for what. The departments are Bridge, Engineering, Electrical, Deck, Hull, Interior and Safety. You can pull crew from your Crew Book or invite new members.

  5. File the float plan

Menu (☰) → Ship's Directory holds the float-plan contacts — the friends or family who should get the plan. (Searching 'float plan contacts' also gets you there, and is the way in before you have added any.) Filing the plan itself is done from the Emergency drawer's File a float plan row, which opens the Float Plan screen; it renders one PDF into one share sheet; you choose there who gets it.
