Add or edit a leg

How legs work and how to change one.

A trip is a sequence of legs. Each leg is one passage between two stops. A weekend run with a stop for lunch is two legs; a four-day cruise might be six or seven.

Steps

  1. Add a leg from Trip Detail

Open the trip → Legs section → Add Leg. Set origin (defaults to the previous leg's destination), destination (search for a port or type a name), and planned date/time. A name typed without picking a suggestion has no position, so that leg has no distance or suggested ETA: once you leave the field it says "No position yet", and so does the leg's row in the Legs list of New Trip and Edit Trip, until you pick a place. The suggestions come from Apple's place search, which needs a connection: with no signal the field says "Place search needs a connection" and the leg keeps the name without a position.

  2. Reorder legs

Long-press a leg row and pick Move up or Move down. That renumbers the legs in sequence; it does not change any departure or arrival date, and there is nothing to confirm. Move up is hidden on the first leg and Move down on the last.

  3. Open Leg Detail

Tap any leg to open Leg Detail. From here you can Add Note, Log Cost, Attach a photo, or Record a voice memo. Fuel is one of the cost categories (Fuel, Dockage, Provisions, Other), not a separate fuel log, and there is no action that splits a leg in two.

  4. Delete a leg

Long-press a scheduled leg on Trip Detail → Delete leg (underway and completed legs do not offer it), or swipe the row left in the Edit Trip sheet. The confirmation is the same either way: it says only scheduled legs can be deleted, that underway and completed legs must be aborted instead, and that you can add a deleted leg back later from the trip detail. It does not list the costs, photos or notes that go with the leg.
