Go now — cast off from the chart in one tap

Leaving right now with nothing planned? One tap on the chart starts a trip, a leg and its track; you name the destination when you tie up.

Tap Go now on the chart and you are underway. theONE creates a trip named for the day ("Thursday cruise"), one leg from where you are, marks the trip active, starts the leg and begins recording its track — the same state the Cast Off wizard leaves, in one tap, with a toast that says "Underway — Thursday cruise". The origin is your position ("Current position" until the geocoder answers with a name). The destination reads "Destination not set" until you arrive — that is a placeholder, not a mistake — and the leg is planned at four hours so nothing nags you about being late. Right after cast-off theONE asks one optional question — the engine hours on the meter — and Not now skips it. Nothing else changes: you end the leg with the same End Trip wizard as any trip, and that is where the destination gets its real name.

Just made a route? Start it from the chart. With a route on the canvas — one you drew, or one the auto-router built — the same pill reads Start route and names how many waypoints it will follow. One tap casts off and puts those waypoints on the leg, and the magenta line you were looking at becomes the leg's own line. You do not have to save the route first. Save it anyway if it is one you will run again.

Steps

  1. Where the button is

On the Chart tab, the Go now pill ("Cast off from here") shows whenever no leg is running or paused. Open a saved route and the same pill becomes "Go along <route>" — one tap casts off AND puts that route on the leg, so the magenta line you were looking at is the line you follow. The same door is the Go Now row in the chart drawer, and on Mission Control the lifecycle button splits into Go now · Plan a trip when there is nothing planned to start.

  2. The first Go now on a new phone

If iOS has not yet asked for location when you tap Go now (on a new install it usually asks at first launch, for the cruising-track watcher), Go now asks and waits for your answer — up to 30 seconds — before it starts the usual three-second search for a fix, so "Allow" lands on a trip that is still listening. Allow, and the leg starts from where you are. Deny it, or leave the dialog unanswered, and the trip still casts off, without a position: the origin stays "Current position" until you edit it or arrival fills it in. If location was denied earlier, Go now doesn't ask again — it casts off at once without a fix; turn it back on for theONE in iOS Settings.

  3. Engine hours at cast-off — optional

Right after the "Underway" toast, a sheet asks "Engine hours at cast-off?" — optional, one row per engine with the last reading beside it. Not now closes it and writes nothing; a row left blank is skipped. Type what the meter shows and tap Save: a first reading sets that engine's meter, a later one logs the hours run since the last reading, noted "Cast-off reading — <trip>". A number below the last reading is refused with "That's below the last reading" — it is never rounded up or booked as usage. The sheet only appears when at least one engine is tracked.

  4. What gets filled in later

The destination. When you tie up, End Trip step 1 asks "Where did you tie up?" and offers "Use where I am: <place>" from your position — tap it, or type a name. Mark Trip Completed writes it to the leg. Engine hours are asked again at the end, in the same wizard, as always.

  5. While you are underway

The title reads "Underway" until the destination is named. The leg records its own track from the first fix; the Track line row in Layers reads "Recording with the leg". Everything you can do on a planned leg — notes, memos, photos, watch tiles — works the same.

  6. Ending it

Tap End Trip as usual. The wizard is unchanged — confirm arrival, arrival debrief, tanks, run hours, observations, stowage, bills, crew handoff, summary. The Summary shows the destination you gave with "Set at arrival" under it. End Trip — from Leg Review, the Captain's Console row or the Lock Screen — leads to this same close-out wizard while a leg is underway or paused (the in-app confirm's button reads "Close out the leg"; the Lock Screen link opens the wizard directly), so tanks, hours and the destination are never skipped; only a trip with no leg running ends directly.

  7. If Go now is not offered

A leg is already in progress or paused — finish or resume that one first. Go now never starts a second leg on top of a running one. It is also hidden while you are planning a route or replaying a saved track on the chart. A trip you have already completed never hides it — only a live trip with a leg still open does.
