theONE on iPad — what works today

Run theONE on an iPad now, and know honestly which parts are still built for a phone.

theONE runs on iPad today. On the bigger screen it switches to a two-column layout: a sidebar on the left carrying the same tabs the iPhone puts along the bottom, and the selected tab filling the right. Everything inside each tab works exactly as it does on the phone.

Being straight with you: that is a correct iPad shell, not a designed-for-iPad app. Individual screens are still laid out for a phone-width column, so on a 13-inch iPad some of them carry more white space than they should. The chart and the briefing benefit from the size immediately; forms and lists are the ones that still look like a phone stretched wide.

A layout built properly for the big screen is the next round of work. If a specific screen is unusable rather than merely roomy, that is worth telling us — that is a bug, not a wish.

Steps

  1. Install it

The iPad and iPhone builds are one app.

  2. Use the sidebar

The left column lists the tabs. Tap one and it opens in the right-hand pane, keeping its own back-stack.

  3. Best on the big screen

Chart and route planning, and the one-tap Vessel Briefing. Both were waiting for the room.

  4. Data is per device until you sign in

An iPad is its own boat until both devices are signed in to the same account and linked to the same vessel; Settings says so under Account.

Until then, set the vessel up on whichever device you will actually use.
