The End-Cruise wizard — 9 steps explained

Closing out a trip is a 9-step wizard ending on a recap you commit. Ending one leg mid-cruise runs the same wizard in a 5-step form.

Open the active trip and tap End Trip. The wizard runs you through 9 steps in order: confirm arrival, arrival debrief, tank readings, run hours, observations, stowage, bills, crew handoff, summary. Each step is optional except step 1 (confirm arrival) — but skipping a step means that data won't be captured.

Steps

  1. Step 1 — Confirm Arrival

Pick the actual arrival time. This becomes the leg's actualEnd via endLeg(_:by:now:). Wall-clock truth comes from your picker, not 'now at button tap'.

  2. Step 2 — Arrival debrief

Sixty seconds, three lanes: what broke (becomes an observation, photo optional), what's low (marks a supply as needed), what to remember (a jot). Blank rows never save. See 'Arrival debrief' for the details.

  3. Step 3 — Tank Readings

Enter end-of-cruise fuel, fresh water, and holding tank percentages. Each is saved as a telemetry reading and becomes the starting state for your next trip.

Skip any tank you did not look at. Skipping means "leave this as it was" — the tank keeps whatever she last knew, and if she never knew anything it stays unread. A tank you never read is recorded as not read, not as empty.

A reading of 0% that you TYPE is different, and is kept: an empty tank you checked is a fact worth having.

On the screen, a tank with no reading shows Not read beside its stepper, not 0%; tap + to give it one. With two or more tanks of a kind, a tank starts from its own last reading only — never from the combined figure for the kind, which is no one tank's reading.

  4. Step 4 — Run Hours

Log the end-of-cruise hours for each engine and generator. Tap the number to type the meter reading straight in on the decimal keypad, or nudge it by 0.1 with the stepper. Committed via addRunHoursLog so service intervals stay current. An engine or generator whose meter has never been read says No reading on record and takes no entry: this step logs the hours run as the difference from the last reading, and there is none to count from.

  5. Step 5 — Observations

Log anything you noticed during the cruise — wet bilge, slow trim tabs, generator alarm. Each becomes an Observation record via addObservation.

  6. Steps 6–8 — Stowage, Bills, Crew handoff

Reconcile what came aboard or went ashore, enter the cruise's bills, and hand off to the next crew. All optional. Bills are kept for the owner, captain and manager: on a crew member's phone signed in to the boat, the Bills step says the bills they recorded do not come there, and gives no total for the cruise.

  7. Step 9 — Summary (recap, then commit)

Final recap of what's about to be saved. Tap 'End Leg' (ending one leg) or 'Mark Trip Completed' (finishing the trip). On the End Trip version this step also carries Preview Trip Summary PDF, which renders the summary and opens the iOS share sheet before you commit; the 5-step End Leg recap has no PDF button.
