What search actually looks at
Search reads from one index of the boat's records — trips and legs, observations and issues, work orders, playbooks, people, stowage and supplies, documents and manuals, and more.
Tap the magnifier in the top right of any screen to open the search box. It is one box behind one door: type a word and you get the screen, the record, and an answer from the help library in one list. The deeper record search over observations, legs, calendar events and jots is the “Deep search” row inside that box.
There used to be three ways in — a box under the Mission Control title, a row inside the menu, and the magnifier. They all opened this same box. Now it is just the magnifier, in the same corner on every tab.
Steps
-
What's indexed today
Trips (title, origin, destination, captain, status). Legs (origin → destination, leg notes, voice-memo captions + transcripts, attachment captions). Vendors. Observations (archived ones are left out — promoting an observation to an issue archives it) & Issues. Notes (read-only list). Stowage items. Calendar events (60 days back to 365 days ahead — anything outside that window is not indexed). Help articles. The Settings door itself — individual settings rows are not indexed. Also: playbooks and their runs, member users, systems and tenders, supplies, storage locations, work orders, filed float plans, crew-book cards, incidents, saved routes and jots — and, for the owner, management and the captain, documents (not archived, with their expiry year) and manuals, including the text inside them.
-
Matching
Stopwords and synonyms apply to the help-article results only — 'How do I save a pdf' drops 'how do I' and ranks 'save' and 'pdf' against the help library. Screen names match on the door's title and its synonyms. Record results are a plain word match: every word you type has to appear somewhere in the record, so an extra word narrows the list rather than widening it.
-
Tap a result
Each result has a Go-to-Source affordance. Tapping jumps you straight into the owning view (open the trip, open the leg, scroll to the note, etc.).
In Deep search the results sit under a heading for their kind: issues under BLOCKERS, the Observations screen's word for them, and member users under PEOPLE. Before you type, Deep search lists what it covers — Trips, Observations, People, Vessel Systems, Playbooks and Stowage — as plain words, not buttons: they used to look like filters and did nothing when tapped.

If you can't find it
Two reasons: (1) it's not on the indexed list — e.g. an observation you promoted to an issue is archived, and archived records are left out — or (2) the keyword you used doesn't match. Try a related term, or use the Help Center for 'how do I' questions.
