Make a Logbook entry

Captain's log — formal record of a watch, a passage, or a noteworthy event.

The Logbook is the formal captain's log. Each entry captures a timestamped snapshot — position, course, speed, fuel, holding, weather, conditions, plus free-text notes. The Logbook is exportable as a PDF for insurance, charter records, or your own archive.

Steps

  1. Open the Logbook

Menu (☰) → Operational records → Logs. The page opens on the Logbook segment; Tracks, Telemetry and Anchorages are the other three, and Anchorages is hidden for crew. You see entries grouped by day, newest day first.

  2. Tap the … menu, then New entry

The Logbook Entry editor opens with a Watch section — Watchkeeper, and When, the date and time the entry is for (now, unless you change it) — then ten numeric fields and a free-text notes section. Numeric fields: Latitude (°), Longitude (°), COG (°), SOG (kn), Heading (°), Depth (ft), Wind dir (°), Wind speed (kn), Engine hours, Fuel remaining (%). There are also Sea state, Weather and Engine pickers. Every numeric field is optional. Watchkeeper is not — Save stays disabled while it is blank, and a new entry opens with 'Self' already in it.

  3. Add free-text notes

The notes section is where you describe conditions, what you observed, anything noteworthy — same way you'd write in a paper log.

  4. Save

The entry takes the time in When — now, unless you set it back to log a watch after the fact — and sits in the Logbook under that day and time. A logbook entry stands on its own — there is no trip link on it. Entries reach the boat's other phones: saving one sends it with the boat's own details, and an entry changed or deleted on one phone is changed or deleted on the others. A phone that has not heard an entry yet does not take it away.

  5. Export as PDF

On the Logbook segment, tap the … menu in the toolbar and choose 'Export PDF'. The item only appears once the book has an entry. theONE renders a paginated PDF of every entry in the book, oldest first, and hands it to the share sheet.
