Checklist items and work orders — linked both ways
A checklist item can cover a recurring work order (its tick is the order's state, read live) or raise a new one — and ticking an item never silently closes a work order.
Two links, different in kind.
Covers. A standing checklist item that is about a recurring work order — "Check impeller condition" covers "Impeller — 500 h". That item is never ticked by hand: its row shows the work order's live state, so closing the order anywhere in the app is reflected on every future run at once. Nothing is stored, so nothing can drift.
Raised. During a run, long-press an item → Raise work order. The order is created and linked back to that run. When it is closed weeks later the old run is not edited — it simply shows "→ WO · closed", looked up live.
Done is not closed. Tick an item whose raised work order is still open and the app asks which you mean: the item is done and the order stays open (the deckhand wiped up the oil; the leak is still a job), or the item is done and you want to close the order out now. It never closes a work order behind your back.
Reopen propagates. Reopen a work order and the tick that passed it is marked superseded — not un-ticked. The tick was true when it was made.
Steps
-
Raise one from a run
Open the run → long-press the item → Raise work order. Title and department, then Raise. The item shows "→ WO #n · open" from then on.
-
Close it out properly
Tick the item → "Done — close the work order out" → date, who, hours, cost, note. Nothing is required; what is missing shows amber on Completed with the gap named.
-
Or leave it open
"Done — work order stays open" ticks the item and touches nothing else. The order stays on the Work List until the work is actually done.
