Add or edit a vessel system
Engine, watermaker, windlass, AC unit — how to add one.
A 'system' in theONE is anything on the boat with its own model number, maintenance, and history — engines, generators, watermakers, windlasses, stabilizers, AC units, refrigeration, electronics, tenders. Each one gets a detail page with photos, documents, parts, and service intervals.
Steps
-
Open Vessel Briefing
Vessel Briefing → the category bubble for the kind of gear you are adding. Not Settings → Vessel Setup: that screen is a flat list of per-type editors (Main Engines, Generators, Watermakers, Fuel Tanks and so on) with no category tree and no generic Add system row.
-
Pick a category
The Critical systems card lists Propulsion, Generators, Electrical, Steering, Navigation, Bilge and Fuel. Tapping one opens that category's own systems list. While that list is empty the add door is the brass button on the page — "Add propulsion system" on Propulsion; once the category has rows, the + in the top right opens the same sheet. Tenders and toys are not in that card: the Briefing's Tenders & Toys section opens its own list, with its own add sheet.
-
Propulsion asks which
Propulsion holds everything that moves the boat: main engines and drive gear, auxiliary engines and thrusters, each under its own heading on the Propulsion screen. Its add button asks which you are adding — Main engine, Auxiliary engine, Thruster, or Drive gear (shaft, prop, gearbox). A main engine is counted among the engines from the moment it is saved; a thruster never gets engine alerts. Generators are engines with their own place — Generators, beside Propulsion — and the Electrical page links to them, and they to it.
-
Open the add sheet
The sheet opens, titled Add and the category — "Add Propulsion". Nothing is required beyond the category: leave the name blank and it saves as the category's own name — "Propulsion", "Electrical", "Bilge" ("Tender" and "Hull" for those two) — and the footer under the Name field says so: "Leave it blank and it saves as “Electrical”." Type a name ("Port main", "Watermaker") and yours wins. The only other fields here are Make, Model and Serial — HIN for a tender or the hull — all optional. Hours and manuals are not on this sheet; you add those afterwards from the detail page's Run Hours and Manuals cards. There is no year field and no photo field on a system anywhere — the detail page's photo strip only gathers photos already tagged to the system's zone or its observations — and subtype belongs to tenders and toys, set from their own editor. Save is never greyed out.
-
Set the service interval
On the new system's detail page, find the Service Interval card and tap Edit. One interval per system — hours between services, the hours reading at the last service, and optionally a next-due date or a next-due hours target. There is no Intervals list, no + Add interval and no per-interval label; a named recurring job like 'Oil change' is a work order raised from the Maintenance tab.
-
Done
The system is now visible in: Search, the Maintenance tab, observation system pickers, Mission Control telemetry tiles if applicable, and the trip-leg planning checklists.
