Weather radar on the chart — NEXRAD overlay
Turn on the NEXRAD weather radar overlay on the chart so you can see precipitation moving across your route.
The chart's Layers sheet has five toggles: GPS live position, Channel markers, Weather radar, Buoys and the track line. Weather radar is the NEXRAD precipitation feed and refreshes every 5 minutes when you have a signal. The toggle persists across launches and applies to every map with the layers button — the Chart tab, Mission Control's map card and the map card on TODAY. The route editor draws no radar, and there is no separate Follow screen any more.
The NEXRAD composite covers the continental US, Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Outside those waters you will not see precipitation tiles even with the toggle on.
Steps
-
Open a chart surface
Open the Chart tab, or the map card on Mission Control or TODAY — the overlay works on all three. The route editor does not draw it.
-
Open the Layers sheet
Tap the round layers button at the top right of the map (VoiceOver calls it Map layers). Five rows appear: GPS live position, Channel markers, Weather radar, Buoys and Track line.
-
Turn on Weather radar
Toggle Weather radar on. Precipitation tiles draw over the chart and refresh about every 5 minutes while you have signal.
-
Done
Tap Done. The toggle persists across launches and applies on all three.
