Tides — when high tide and low tide are

Read tide times and heights for the next 24 hours from NOAA stations.

Open the Tide row from the Today chip on Mission Control. The Tide screen shows TODAY'S SCHEDULE and the NEXT tide event from the nearest NOAA station.

Tide data comes from NOAA reference stations on the U.S. tidal coasts — the Atlantic from Eastport, Maine to Key West, the Gulf from Naples to Port Isabel, the Pacific from San Diego to Puget Sound, and Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. theONE uses the nearest station within 100 miles; further out than that you get a notice rather than a schedule. The Great Lakes have no tides — NOAA publishes water levels there, not tide tables — so there, too, you get the notice. International stations are not covered.

The Tide screen does not show currents or slack water.

NO SIGNAL. Each time theONE fetches tides it keeps that station's two-day table of highs and lows on this device. When NOAA can't be reached — no signal at sea, or NOAA not answering — theONE uses the kept table instead, for up to 48 hours after it was fetched: the tide row on the TODAY chip and on the Today tab adds "as of <time>", the time it was fetched, and the Tide screen's source line says how long ago it was updated. With no kept table the row says why in words — "No signal — tides need a connection" or "Couldn't reach NOAA for tides" — and the Tide screen says it couldn't reach NOAA. "No tide station nearby" appears only when there really is no NOAA station within 100 miles.

Steps

  1. Open Mission Control

The TODAY card carries the tide row for your location.

  2. Open the tide schedule

Tap the TODAY card, then tap the Tide row. Today's schedule and the next tide event show for the nearest NOAA station.

  3. Check coverage

The U.S. tidal coasts: Atlantic, Gulf, Pacific, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. theONE uses the nearest NOAA station within 100 miles and names it, so you know where the numbers come from. Further than that — the outer Aleutians, Guam, the Great Lakes (no tides), abroad — you get a notice, not a schedule.
