Route distance and ETA on a planned route

Read the total distance for a route you've built.

Once you've built a route in the chart editor, its row in Routes shows the waypoint count and, once it has two or more waypoints, the total distance in nautical miles — the leg-by-leg distances added up. There is no ETA on a saved route.

While a leg is underway, the HUD along the bottom of the chart — on the Chart tab, and on the map cards on Mission Control and TODAY — shows three figures: SOG, DTG and XTE. DTG is the distance left to the destination along the rest of the route, not to the next waypoint, and there is no ETA cell.

The one arrival estimate computed from speed is in the trip leg editor. With an origin and a destination set it offers "Approx. N nm" and a run time, then "at N kts · arrives …" from your vessel's cruising speed, with a Use button that copies that time into the leg's ETA. Until a cruising speed is set it works from 22 kts and says so — "at 22 kts (assumed — no cruising speed set)" — and the Vessel cruising speed row under it reads "22 kts (assumed)" until you step it to your boat's own speed. It measures the great-circle chain from origin through any waypoints in the leg's Route section to the destination, and the caption under it always reads "Straight line — add waypoints if your route bends."

Strong current or speed changes drift the ETA away from the plan — that's expected. Treat the planned ETA as an estimate.

Steps

  1. Build a route

Open the chart's Routes panel → New route, then tap waypoints onto the chart. See 'Route Editor — draw, edit, and reorder waypoints'.

  2. Read the distance

There is no route detail screen. The route's row in the Routes panel carries the distance, summed leg by leg, once the route has two or more waypoints; tapping the row loads it back onto the chart to edit.

  3. Follow it live

Start a leg and follow the route. The HUD shows SOG, DTG and XTE — DTG counts down the distance to the destination along the rest of the route. There is no ETA cell.
