Notepad — quick thoughts, kept in context

Capture a quick note and understand how Notepad keeps it attached to the right boat, trip, leg, or vendor — and who can see it.

Notepad is theONE's mutable quick-capture surface: jot a thought now and it stays attached to the boat, a trip, a leg, or a vendor so you can find it later. It's the modern companion to the older, read-only Notes list — the two live side by side.

Steps

  1. Find Notepad

Menu (☰) → Vessel & ops → Notes, then the Notepad tab at the top of the page (it opens there by default). Notepad is the one you can actually write to; the read-only Older notes list and the Jot inbox are the other two tabs on the same page.

  2. Capture a jot

Tap New note — the pencil-and-square button at the top — to open the editor. Give it a title and body and save. New notes attach to the current vessel by default.

  3. Add a voice note

Prefer to talk it out? Use the voice-record option — grant microphone access the first time, speak your note, and save. The recording rides along with the note.

  4. Notes live in context

Every note carries a context — Vessel, Trip, Leg, or Vendor — shown as a pill. That's what keeps a note findable later: a note you made on a leg resurfaces when you review that leg.

  5. Who sees what

Notepad is permission-aware. What you can read, edit, pin, and archive depends on your role and the note's visibility. A badge on each row shows its read scope, and beside it the row names what the note is about — unless that would only repeat the badge's word, so a vessel-wide note about the vessel shows "Vessel" once, not twice. Crew who aren't Captains only see the notes their role is allowed to read. A private note is yours on every device signed in to your account. Named names people by their theONE account: the list offers the people whose crew card is linked to their account (a card is linked when its person signs in on their own phone); vendors and guests are never offered, because notes never reach them.

  6. Pin, archive, and search

Pin the notes you keep coming back to so they sort to the top, and archive the ones you're done with — archived notes leave the main list but stay on the record. Free-text search runs across titles and bodies, and always respects the same permission filter.

  7. Notepad vs. the old Notes

theONE still carries a legacy Notes list that's read-only, and nothing in the app adds to it. Notepad is the mutable replacement. Both live behind the one Notes door now: the Older notes tab shows the old list, the Notepad tab shows this one.
