Mayday and emergency reference
Find the Mayday assist, the marine distress reference, and the float plan share.
Open the Emergency drawer from Mission Control. The drawer is a marine emergency reference that works offline and requires no sign-in.
Available there, in this order:
- Drop MOB pin now — first and full width: one tap saves a man-overboard pin at your current position.
- The calls, and the Channel 16 reference (156.800 MHz) — international distress, safety and calling frequency.
- The DSC distress button — how to send a digital distress alert from a VHF that has one: your MMSI and position, to the Coast Guard and every DSC radio in range: lift the cover and hold DISTRESS for about five seconds, until the radio sends.
- Interactive Mayday assist — guided script for a VHF call.
- File a float plan — send your current plan to a shore contact.
- Float plan history — past plans.
- USCG district directory — district phone numbers.
- Find a safe refuge — under the Nearest harbors heading; the top five closest harbors by great-circle distance.
Use "Mayday" if life-threatening or unsure; "Pan-pan" if recoverable but you may need help.
Steps
-
Open the Emergency drawer
The red triangle at the top of Mission Control, the chart drawer's Man Overboard row, or Siri. theONE's own lock screen has an Emergency button that opens the reference part without unlocking. The drawer works offline and needs no sign-in.
-
Drop MOB pin now
The first thing in the drawer, full width. One tap saves your position and shows the coordinates to read to the Coast Guard.
-
Mayday assist
Tap Mayday assist and read the script over VHF Channel 16 — vessel name three times, position, nature of emergency. Position fills from GPS. With a man-overboard pin active it fills from the pin instead, and the script says what time the person went in. The line under the position says where it came from and how old it is: a GPS reading more than two minutes old says so, and ↻ takes a fresh one. A pin taken at your homeport is never read as your position.
