Float plan overdue — what happens

Understand the overdue nudge and how to close a filed plan when you're home safe.

When you file a float plan you tell someone ashore "call for help if I'm not back by this time." If that expected-return time passes while the plan is still open, theONE posts a single reminder so you can close the plan (you're home safe) or your shore contact can act. The reminder now fires even with the app closed — filing a plan schedules a real notification for the overdue moment, and closing the plan cancels it. It is a nudge, not an alarm.

Steps

  1. You get one reminder

The first time a filed plan passes its expected return time, theONE posts a local notification naming the vessel, the time you were expected back, and — if you filed with someone — who may raise the alarm. It won't repeat every few minutes. With Require Face ID to unlock theONE switched on (Menu (☰) → Settings → Privacy & Lock; Touch ID on a phone that has it), a locked phone shows only "Float plan overdue" — the boat, the time and the names wait until you unlock.

  2. If you're safe, close the plan

Open Float Plan History, tap the plan and tap Mark home safe (or swipe the row). That stops the reminder and tells the record you made it back. The same screen shares the plan's PDF again. Deleting a plan is for the owner, or a manager holding owner authority.

  3. If you're not back yet, that's fine

The plan stays open. Nothing is sent automatically — the point of the plan is that a real person ashore decides when to raise the alarm.

  4. Fires with the app closed

Filing a plan arms a notification for the moment it goes overdue; closing or deleting the plan disarms it. If you undo a close, it re-arms. Needs iOS notification permission. If you've denied it, nothing is posted at all — the plan just shows as Overdue in Float Plan History, and that is the only signal you get. The filing screen tells you so at the top before you send — also when iOS is not showing theONE's banners, or delivers them quietly — with a button to iOS Settings.
