Light, dark, or follow iOS
Three appearance modes, two controls: the header sun/moon flips Light and Dark, Preferences is where you hand the choice back to iOS.
theONE has three appearance modes — System, Light and Dark — and two places to set them.
The sun/moon button in the header is the fast one: it flips Light ↔ Dark and nothing else. System lives in Preferences. That split matters, because the first tap of the sun/moon takes you off System and the button alone will never put you back.
Dark keeps the chart legible at night without burning your night vision. Light is easier to read in direct sun. System hands the decision to iOS, which means the boat goes dark at sunset with the rest of your phone.
Steps
-
Flip it fast
Tap the sun/moon button in the header — Mission Control, Today, Trips, Stowage, Briefing, Playbook Home and Vendor Mission Control all carry it. The icon shows the mode you would jump TO. The change is app-wide and instant, and it survives a relaunch.
-
Go back to following iOS
☰ → Settings → Preferences → Appearance, and choose System. This is the only control that can reach System; the header button cannot.
-
Which to pick
System if you already switch your phone at sunset and want the boat to match. Light or Dark if you want theONE pinned regardless of what iOS does — a helm that stays dark through a bright afternoon, for instance.
-
Increase Contrast
theONE follows iOS Increase Contrast — Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Increase Contrast; there is no separate switch in the app. With it on, the app's text, link and status colours move a step darker in Light and a step lighter in Dark, so they read at 7:1 or better against the app's backgrounds and cards, labels on filled buttons in those colours do the same, and card borders and dividers are drawn firmer. The hues stay the same — red is still red — and the backgrounds and the brand teal do not change. Charts, maps, weather-alert and department colours keep their standard shades. Turn it off and the standard colours come back at once.
