The Crew Book — your personal rolodex

Keep a card for everyone who works this boat — captain, mate, chef or deckhand — with their contact details, licences, certifications and notes. The cards belong to the boat's record.

Crew Book is a separate concept from Members. Members = who has access to THIS vessel right now. Crew Book = this boat's book of the people who work her. A card stays after someone leaves, so the captain you hired three seasons ago is still in it.

Steps

  1. Open Crew Book

Menu (☰) → Ship's Directory → the Crew pill (the Directory is also under Settings). Crew Book has no row of its own: it moved into the Directory.

  2. Add a card

In the Ship's Directory, tap + at the top right (VoiceOver calls it Add to directory) and choose New Crew Card; on the Crew Book screen itself — the Open Crew Book button on this article in the app's Help Center — it is the Add card button. The new card asks for a full name, an email or a phone number (one of the two is required), and a default role — one of the boat's roles, such as Crew or Captain, not a job title like Mate, Chef or Stew (put the job in the card's notes). Open the card afterwards for licences, certifications, an emergency contact, dietary and medical notes, and notes. There is no previous-vessels field.

  3. Crew Book belongs to the boat

Crew Book is kept with this boat's record, not with your account. On a signed-in boat it reaches her owner, captain and manager on every phone (below); a second boat starts with an empty Crew Book; and if she leaves your phone, or changes hands, her Crew Book goes with her. What leaves with YOU is your own card: when your time aboard ends, your service record on Account keeps your own details, licences and certifications.

  4. Invite them to a trip

From a Crew Book card, tap Invite to Trip(s)… to invite them to one or more trips. It is not a vessel-membership invite — vessel members are managed under Settings → Member Users. The action appears only if you may invite somebody, and the role picker offers only the ranks you may grant, so the card's usual role is not always what it proposes. An invite an owner, captain or manager makes reaches the others' phones too, once they have synced with the boat, so any of them can see it waiting — and the answer the person gives on their own phone comes back to them.

  5. On a crew member's phone

On a signed-in boat the owner, captain and manager see every crew card, allergies, dietary and medical notes included. A crew member's, vendor's or guest's phone receives only their own card: there Crew Book shows that card alone — theirs to see and edit — under a line saying the rest are kept for the owner, captain and manager, and it has no Add card.
