Cloud sync — how the boat's record reaches every phone
theONE syncs through its own cloud, not iCloud. How to turn it on, how your changes go up and other phones' changes come down, and which change stands when two phones changed the same thing.
theONE does not use iCloud. It has its own cloud, and this phone talks to it only after you sign in and link a vessel on Account.
Once linked, every change you make on this phone is sent to the cloud log when you're online, and changes made on another phone on the same boat come down to this one — within a second while Account's boat row says "Synced, live", within half a minute while it says "Synced". The Storage section of Menu (☰) → Settings → Preferences shows the count still waiting to upload.
That section also tells you which of the two states this particular device is in. Its Storage mode row reads "On this iPhone only" until you sign in and link a vessel, and says it is synced after. It is a per-device fact, not a property of the app: the phone in your pocket can be syncing while the iPad in the nav station has never been signed in, and each one tells you which it is.
Nothing waits on the cloud: everything you do lands on this phone first, and the boat keeps running with no signal at all.
Steps
-
Turn it on
Menu (☰) → Settings → Account. Sign in (with your password, or a code emailed to you), then link the boat: on the phone that carries her, Account offers "Put <her name> in the cloud"; where your account already holds her, tap Use this boat. Signing in does not link her by itself.
-
Watch it go up
Menu (☰) → Settings → Preferences → Storage shows Pending uploads. It drops to zero when you're online and linked.

Your safety net today
Backup and Restore still works exactly as before and does not depend on the cloud.

When two phones change the same thing
The later change stands, whoever made it — and "later" is judged by each phone's own clock at the moment the change was made, not by when it reached the cloud. Phones set their clock from the network unless someone switched that off, so this only goes wrong on a phone whose clock was set by hand: if it runs fast, its change counts as made no later than the moment theONE's server received it, so it cannot win over a change that reached the server first. A clock running slow still makes its own changes look older than they were. A change made offline keeps the time it was made, so it does not overwrite newer work when the phone comes back. For money, expiry dates, service intervals and the boat's own numbers, the value that was replaced is kept under Account → Sync notices, with who wrote each.
