The Sync row in the menu (☰)

If your local changes haven't yet reached the cloud, the menu (☰) surfaces a Sync row so you can see the state at a glance. Here's what it means and what it doesn't.

Sync runs once your vessel is linked to an account. Until it is linked, everything is saved on this device and nothing leaves it.

Either way the Sync row in the menu (☰) is the honesty signal: it appears when you are offline or when changes are queued, and hides itself when there is nothing to say.

Steps

  1. Where it lives

Top-left menu (☰) on any tab. Look for the Sync row between the User Role picker and the Capture verbs. The row hides itself when there is nothing to show.

  2. Offline state

With no network the row reads 'Working offline'. On a marina LAN or captive portal it reads 'Local network only', or 'Local network · N queued' when changes are waiting. Tapping is informational — the manual control lives in Settings → Preferences → Storage.

  3. Pending changes (online)

Online with changes waiting, the row shows a tray-and-arrow glyph in brass and reads 'N changes queued'. The second line under it says where the boat's record is. Signed in and linked to a boat in the cloud, it reads 'Saved on this iPhone; N changes waiting to go up.' (iPad on an iPad) — the boat is in the cloud and only those changes are not up yet. Changes that could not go up because the link failed are tried again by themselves while theONE is open — after 15 seconds, then less often, up to every 5 minutes — so you need not make another change or tap Sync now to send them. Not signed in, or with no boat in the cloud, it reads 'Saved on this iPhone. There is no cloud copy yet.'

  4. Changes held for their own boat

Changes are only ever sent to the boat they were made on. If this phone is linked to a different boat from the one on it — you joined another boat with a code, say — the changes you make on your own boat are held on this phone: the row reads 'N changes held' and says which boat they were made on. They go up only to that boat, never to the one the phone is linked to — and nothing of the linked boat comes into yours either: while it is linked to another boat, this phone neither sends nor receives for your own. Account says the same under the boat's row.

  5. Hidden when clean

If you're online and have no pending mutations, the Sync row is hidden entirely. No row = nothing to surface.

  6. Sync now, and Last sync

Menu (☰) → Settings → Preferences → Storage. Once the vessel is linked you get a 'Sync now' button and a 'Last sync' line beside it. The button is available when you are online and something is actually queued.

  7. How you know without opening the menu

A banner sits across the top of every tab while you are offline and pushes the shell down rather than drawing over it, so it is unmissable.

The little wifi-slash badge on the ☰ button was removed — a red glyph for a condition a boat lives in most of the time was reading as an error. The only overlay left on the menu glyph is the red dot for unread Foresight findings.
